Quilling

Worked on a couple more projects.  Both were made for the very first time.  Lots of firsts for me.  I love quilling though.  I love the colors in the quilled box. So bright and springy.  It's 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 X 2 inches, took 344 coils and 5 days to complete.  My other project was a refrigerator magnet inspired by another wonderful quiller http://chillinwithquillin.blogspot.com/2012/02/quilled-flowers-and-quotes.html  This lady has some awesome items plus has inspired me to create!

A little late but, I worked on this for 2 days.  I don't know how everyone else was making them but for me this was quite the challenge and I loved every minute of it.  I have tons more ideas for these little beauties and hope to create a series of them each year for my shop.  I picked the colors because they seemed so spring like for me and I am so waiting for it to get here.  28 degrees to day and even though it is sunny for a change it's still way to cold for me!

I've been seeing lots of quilled jewelry lately and I must say they are inspiring so decided to give it a go.  I made 2 different sets of earrings.   1 yellow with 2 different color blues and 1 a set of red / pink earrings with a matching necklace.

I've been doing a bit more quilling.  I love this art and scour the internet for new website and tutorials.  This flower is a combination of several different techniques.  One is the beehive technique ( http://susanquilling.blogspot.com/2011/12/beehive-flowers.html ), a simple husking, and a tear shape.

Just a couple of bits and pieces I quilled to be used on various projects.

Black and yellow "Royal Ann" flower.  Not the name just one that was given during a tutorial.  I need to find it again and will post the link for it.  It's stunning for sure.

Thought I would try quilling an ornament for Christmas card.

Quilled Elf girl for another Christmas card.  Not sure yet.

I love to quill and have several projects in the works.  I'm working on some Christmas elves, bulbs and train.  We shall see how it all works out.

For anyone new to quilling it's simply an art of twirling paper.  In Victorian times it was called paper filigree and generally done by Ladies as they had the time to be able to do this art form.  It's making a come back now and I accidently came across it while doing a search for creating my greeting cards.  I love the look and all the possibilities one has to create graphic quilling pieces.

Quilled initial for a birthday

Bits and pieces I've worked on this week

Daffodill

5 layered cocoa flower

5 layered cream and pink flower

Dual tone quilled flower

Pink Malaysian flower

Really enjoyed creating all of these this week.  Still now sure how I'll be using them but I know I'll be able to use them at any time for any occasion.
